A front-page story detailed the efforts of Eagle residents Dennis and Patty Gibbons to assemble their outdoor Christmas lights display. The Gibbons house featured more than 11,000 lights, animated Santa's Workshop figures, a nativity scene and more at 717 Bull Run.Howard Risk of Eagle published his memoir — titled “Me” — featuring photos and stories from his career as a professional photographer.
Griffin Lay's letter to Santa asked for an elf robe. “Please don't forget we have moved to Eagle,” he wrote.
Brian Luark of McCoy won top honors at the Reining Horse Association Championship held in Oklahoma City.
Rex and Rita Bossow won overall first-place honors in the Gypsum Holiday Lighting Contest.

Downvalley residents continued to voice their concerns about the possible loss of Eagle's Colorado Mountain College branch. CMC was building a new facility in Edwards.Local volunteers put together and delivered 151 food boxes for needy area families.
Enterprise readers responding to a survey expressed support for a big box store, but said they wanted it to be located in Gypsum.
Eagle Valley High School wrestler Chris Best picked up two pins in a triangular meet with Steamboat and Basalt. Best was wrestling at 119 pounds.
Despite a three-pointer by Micah Bernhardt at the buzzer and some great rebounds by Sam Bartlett, the Devils basketball team lost a close game to Buena Vista.
20 years ago — Week of Dec. 26, 1991
With population information gleaned from the 1990 Census, Eagle County's commissioner district boundaries were being re-drawn. The biggest change was in district 2, which was reconfigured to run from Avon to Eagle. Under the previous configuration, Eagle was part of district three.The town of Gypsum was cracking down on violators of its livestock ordinance. The town sent out letters threatening legal action in livestock cases where the town had received complaints.
Zella Lindersmith of Eagle was the lucky winner of the Eagle Valley Chamber of Commerce turkey give-away. She entered the contest at Beasley's Food Town.
The EVHS wrestling team won the Glenwood Springs Invitational Tournament with all 13 team members placing and five of them winning at the contest.
30 years ago — Week of Dec. 24, 1981
Eagle County Clerk and Recorder Johnnette Phillips reminded all area retailers that beginning Jan. 1, the new 1 percent county sales tax would be going into effect.Eagle County and six other counties with a ski industry base were set to comprise a Colorado Senate district beginning with the 1984 election. The proposed Senate District 13 included Eagle, Pitkin, Summit, Clear Creek and Gilpin counties and the mountain regions of Jefferson and Boulder counties.
Eldora Skiles was named Postmaster at the Burns Post Office.
The EVHS wrestling team chalked up a 50-5 point win over the Basalt Longhorns.
40 years ago — Week of Dec. 23, 1971
The foreign language department at Battle Mountain High School received a cassette player-recorder in remembrance of a former teacher — Janice Ruder — who was killed in a car accident during the summer of 1970. The donation was made by the Minturn Bridge Club.There were 65 local kids enrolled in the Buddy Werner Ski program.
Dick Sixkiller of Eagle received a Safe Driver Award from the Colorado Highway Patrol.
The Edwards community was hosting a New Year's Ever Party and dance. Admission was $2.50.
50 years ago — Week of Dec. 21, 1961
The Eagle Lions Club annual Santa Claus Party was planned Dec. 23. Santa's plane was set to arrive at the county airport at 11 a.m. and a free movie matinee was planned at the Eagle Theater at 1:30 p.m. The event promised “candy and gifts for all county kids.”The Eagle High School Alumni planned the traditional New Year's Eve Dance from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Eagle Gym, with music by the Jacopic Orchestra.
Severe winter weather the previous week prompted Enterprise editor Marilla McCain to note, “There will be a Christmas white enough to stop Bing Crosby's dreams.”
60 years ago — Week of Dec. 20,1951
A change was planned for Eagle's Santa Claus visit. “In year's past, the local Home Demonstration Club, in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce, has made possible a visit from Santa Claus on Christmas Eve, bringing candy into each home in Eagle.” The club and chamber instead planned a Santa party, with Father Christmas arriving by airplane at the county airport. “Santa will bring gifts and candy for all Eagle County kids,” The Enterprise reported.Eagle residents were urged to register their homes for the community's holiday lighting contest.
Eagle County residents learned the local chapter of the Infantile Paralysis Committee owed $3,000 for treatment of local polio victims during 1951. “This year, funding needs demand it must be a local March of Dollars rather than a March of Dimes,” reported the Enterprise.
Pete Dodo of Edwards was elected president of the Eagle County Stockmen's Association. Leonard Horn was re-elected as vice president.
70 years ago — Week of Dec. 19, 1941
A.B. Koonce, chairman of the Eagle County Chapter of the American Red Cross, wrote, “With the declarations of all-out war have come more duties and more responsibilities ... a new quota for the Eagle County Chapter has been set in the amount of $900. This is for direct war relief.”C.L. Mayer was elected president of the Eagle County Cattle Growers Association. Vice president was Ray Chatfield and secretary-treasurer was D.E. Johnson.
The featured movie at the Eagle Theater was “Hold that Ghost,” starring Bud Abbott and Lou Costello.
