Teens — spread the love at the Gypsum Public Library this holiday season!
Teens are invited to decorate and stuff stockings for other teens in need from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19.
With the help of community volunteers who did the sewing, the staff at Gypsum Public Library will have over 30 stockings to decorate and stuff. Community members can also help out by donating items for both boys' and girls' stockings, such as socks, gloves, trail mix, candy, books, ornaments, key chains, lip gloss, wallets and more. The stockings will be delivered to the Salvation Army to be distributed to teens in need around the area.
“Last year I read an article about a mom in Utah who had lost her daughter in a tragic auto accident,” said Susan Hicks, a staff member at the Gypsum Public Library. “When the holidays rolled around, she wanted to turn her grief into a positive action for the holidays. Since her daughter was 16 when she died, she decided to make stockings, fill them with items for teens, and donate them. That year, I had lost three loved ones and felt that this would be a great project to do for teens in our area.”
Last year's stuffing party generated 30 stockings for the Salvation Army — 15 for boys and 15 for girls.
“The Salvation Army was delighted to receive items that were geared towards teens from needy families,” said Hicks. “They said they often do not have items for teen gifts.”
