Eagle plans to revamp the proposal/approval process used for consideration of new biking/hiking trails in town open space.
But the details of that process have yet to be determined.
The issue came to a head this spring when a proposal to build a trail connection in the Hernage Creek drainage surfaced. Outdoor enthusiasts embraced the plan but neighboring property owners and representatives from the Colorado Division of Wildlife voiced their opposition. The issue prompted the town to host a series of open-space open-house sessions to educate people about Eagle's comprehensive open space holdings and goals and to collect input about future trail construction.
After the process, Eagle Open Space Coordinator Bill Heicher likened construction of more trails to an infill development process where some residents will support the work and others will oppose it.
“Change is going to be difficult at this point. That's not saying there are not options,” said Heicher.
Town board members voiced the belief that an inclusive public process could help with the issue and agreed to research options and develop a new way to address trail issues in the future.
