Dog dispute
A canine escape led to a recent confrontation between two Eagle neighbors.Eagle police were called to mediate the dispute when a woman reported that her neighbor had made threatening remarks. The woman said she was outside with her two young children when unbeknownst to them, the family Dachshund escaped from the backyard. She claimed that when she went to retrieve the animal, a male neighbor swore at her and told her to keep the dog out of his yard. The woman said the neighbor made the remarks in front of her children and also told her to “watch her back.”
When the officer spoke with the man, he said he was leaving his house when the barking dog ran up and threatened to bite him. The man said he grabbed a bucket from his front porch and threw it at the dog, at which point his neighbor confronted him about his actions.
The man said he threatened to call animal control but “didn't cuss much,” according to the police report. He said that the woman's husband arrived after the initial argument and verbally assaulted him. He also claimed that the dog had previously bitten his daughter.
After checking animal control records, the officer couldn't find a report of a biting incident.
The officer advised the neighbors to avoid contact with one another and they both agreed, saying they preferred it that way. No charges were filed.
Post office prowler
Police were called to the Eagle Post Office last week when they were notified about a suspicious person. The reporting party said he had gone inside the Post Office to get his mail, but when he returned he found the glove box in his vehicle was open and papers were sticking out. He had not locked the vehicle before entering the building.
The citizen then noticed a man lurking around the post office parking lot, looking in cars. He pulled out of the lot and parked across the street to observe the man. The citizen said the man would watch as someone parked and then entered the building. Once the driver went inside, the man would approach the vehicle and look inside. The citizen also noted the man returned to his own car several times to move it to different parking spaces.
The citizen said he was unable to see if the man took anything from any of the cars.
When police contacted the man, he asserted he was doing nothing wrong. He said he worked as a plumber and had just gotten paid so he was at the post office to rent a box. Upon checking with postal employees, however, that story did not hold up because the man never requested a box rental.
A check of the man's records revealed a long criminal history of theft, larceny, fraud and trespass. A check of the lot showed a trail of oil leaks emanating from his car that collaborated the citizen's story.
Police checked with the owners of several of the cars in the lot, but no one reported missing items. The man was then issued a citation for trespassing based on the witness's statement.
